Dacian Fortresses in Orastie mountains

 

Blidaru, Costesti – Cetatuie, Fetele Albe , Luncani- Piatra Rosie, Sarmizegetusa Regia – Gradistea of mountain , the oldest fortified compound known under the generic name – Dacian Fortresses of the Orastie Mountains, is located in the central and western geographical unit Godeanu massif, Hunedoara county . Spread along the many mountain valleys arranged on platforms, natural or artificial terraces, whose altitude ranges, we find a range of habitats, most fortified.

All these fortifications: Costeşti- Cetatuie, Costeşti-Blidaru, Luncani -Piatra Rosie, Băniţa, Capalna , Cugir and  Hulpe’s Peak, the last two with little or no archaeological investigated, located on an area of approximately 150 km2, part of the defensive system designed The Dacians for defense power center – <Sarmizegetusa Regia> after Ptolemy ,  Dacian kingdom territory. The entire defense system will be completely destroyed in 106.D.C. , Dacian kingdom following the annexation to the Roman Empire.

Dacian Fortresses are targets of national interest registered in UNESCO World Heritage List,  throughout Romania there are only three such cases, namely the monument at Sarmizegetusa Regia at the Piatra Rosie, Capalna at the Alba County, all three entered in UNESCO World Heritage List.
